Tomas Wikström
I am an architect, since summer 2010 working as a visiting professor at Urban Studies, Malmö University, Sweden. My research – in the field of urban studies – concerns everyday life and mobility in urban landscapes. Mediated interaction, especially how people use their mobile phones, is an important aspect of that research. I am also very interested in daily (routine) movements and the kinds of places that make up the task-scapes of different people. My recent case studies include Flemingsberg, a modernist suburb south of Stockholm (see title image), and Hofors, an industrial town 200 kilometres to the north. The city of Malmö, especially within walking distance from home, and the entire Öresund region provide ample opportunities to make observations and to learn from how people make use of mobile communication technologies.
